I haven't played it myself (I'm an X3TC addict) but from the sounds of it X3FL is probably a step in the same direction as AP was from TC, making it the most modernized and streamlined experience in the X3 series. It also features somewhat improved UI and slight modernization, better weapon balancing, abbreviated storylines and plenty of more refined mechanics. X3AP is a more active and vibrant universe, with lots that's going on that isn't in your control. It also has many of the grindiest storylines so it provides plenty of content and longevity if that appeals to you. X3TC is the oldest but is also the "quietest" universe if you'd prefer to just be a trader or if you'd prefer to dominate the whole universe. The important differences between the X games are largely about their mechanics. Don't worry about playing them chronologically there's no benefit to that. The stories of X games are relatively self-contained and often somewhat overlapping, as in you'll get an abbreviated version of the same story in different versions. Modded FL still tracks achievements in-game, so it's easy to see which you have earned and then use the tool accordingly. However, you can get around it by legitimately earning the achievements in-game and then using an external tool like Steam Achievement Manager to unlock it in Steam at the same time. Mods disable Steam achievements, so that might be problematic if achievements are important to you. If you don't like the dynamic reputation, or other aspects, they can be changed with mods. I consider the Xenon threat to be a positive aspect, since it adds more pressure to the player, and from my experience has not been overly harsh. Despite that, the new agent system can manage it reasonably well. It can be frustrating and tedious at times. The dynamic reputation system is good in theory, but it's implementation needs a bit of improvement. But, it also adds controversial mechanics such as the dynamic reputation system and heavier Xenon presence. Don't use the 1.2 beta, it's buggy since it's a beta.įL fixes problems from TC/AP and adds great new features. 1.1 has a number of issues that are resolved in the patch. I would suggest playing FL instead of TC or AP, but wait for the 1.2 patch first.
